SEO Elements Required to Rank Any Page on Google

SEO isn’t easy, nor is it overly difficult.  It does take an investment in time and effort.  However, when it is done right, the rewads can be rewarding.  

Below is a quick reference list of SEO elements, facts and tips to rank any page on Google or any other search engines.

SEO Facts of URLs

Dashes are the best practice and avoid underscores or no space

Best practices are that the shorter the URL, the better

According to Google, directories and subdomains are okay.

Avoid duplicate content, even if you are using multiple URLs with the same content.

Don’t use tagged URLs for tracking this will create duplicate URL issues.

The best ways to deal with duplicate URLs according to Google are to use 301 redirect, rel=”canonical,” setting URL parameters and robots.txt

Facts About Page Title

All page title needs to be under 70 characters

Google will look to see if you are using the keyword is in the page title

Page titles that are longer than 70 characters you will get a … and cut off.

Facts about Meta Descriptions and how They Impact SEO

Meta descriptions should be no longer than 160 characters

Often, Google will use text other than what you have written in the meta description for the listing in SERPs

Kogle does not feature meta descriptions in a rich snippet

Meta descriptions are not a ranking factor; they do impact the click-through rate (CTR) of content.

The higher the CTR of your content, the higher it ranks

Keywords in the meta description if they are in the search query of the searcher, they will be highlighted in the search results

The best practice to have 2 to 6 meta keywords per page
